We’ve got eight finals! Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris eyes top-four finish
Tottenham's Hugo Lloris says Spurs must treat each of their remaining eight league games like finals in the top-four race
Hugo Lloris believes Tottenham must approach each of their remaining eight Premier League games like finals as Spurs aim to secure a top-four finish.
Andre Villas-Boas’s side have lost their last two fixtures in the English top flight, allowing Chelsea to move into third position and fifth-placed Arsenal close the gap to four points.
Tottenham take on Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday, and Lloris reckons the international break has afforded Spurs the chance to regroup ahead of the season’s climax.
“Maybe the fight is between Chelsea and Arsenal and Tottenham. We can do it and I hope we will,” Lloris told the Daily Mail.
“I have big confidence because we have good character. We’ve proved it this season and now we have to show it on the pitch.
“We did very well for 12 games and we lost against Liverpool and Fulham, but the most important thing is the reaction.
“I think the international break was a good thing for us, to help us find energy for the end of the season. We now have eight games which are like eight
Lloris also believes Tottenham need regular Champions League football to help Villas-Boas’s men develop into a side capable of regularly challenging for honours.
“I think Tottenham have the quality today to challenge other teams but we need time because we don’t have experience,’ he added.
“In a few seasons we can close that deficit but we need time and we need to play high-level games in the Champions League.
“We have ambition to put this club in the top four every year.”
