Gylfi Sigurdsson feels Tottenham did not deserve to lose to Liverpool after Spurs were pegged back by the Reds at Anfield
Gylfi Sigurdsson felt Tottenham did not deserve to lose to Liverpool after Spurs were pegged back by the Reds at Anfield on Sunday.
The north Londoners were 2-1 up in the second half after two goals from Jan Vertonghen had cancelled out Luis Suárez’s opener at Anfield.
But Stewart Downing capitalised on Kyle Walkers poor back-pass to equalise and Steven Gerrard gave Liverpool victory from the spot late on.
Spurs, who were unbeaten in 12 Premier League games before Sunday, must now turn their attentions back to the Europa League and a trip to Inter Milan on Thursday.
And Sigurdsson has called on his team-mates to regroup after their Merseyside defeat.
“They have dangerous players, especially Suarez up front, but I thought once it went to 2-1 we controlled the game,” Sigurdsson told Spurs’ website. “In the end, we lost the game ourselves.
“We deserved more than we got at Anfield, so that shows how good the team is. We’ve now got to go on another run.
“It was disappointing but all we can do now is focus on the next game at Inter and make sure we go through.
“We’ve been on an unbelievable run and sometimes things like this happen. We have to make sure we stay together, regroup and get ready for the next game.
“Hopefully we can go on another run between now and the end of the season.”
