Tottenham's Gareth Bale named Premier League player of the month for February, while Andre Villas-Boas takes managers' prize
Gareth Bale has been named as the Premier League player of the month for February after a string of brilliant displays for Tottenham Hotspur.
The 23-year-old Wales international scored an impressive brace to inspire Spurs to a 3-2 win at Upton Park on Monday and netted seven goals in total last month.
“It’s been a great month but the team has worked hard all season,” said Bale, who scored five of Spurs’ six goals in February.
“We’re getting better and better with every game, we’re gelling and as I’ve said before, we work together and and whoever gets these awards, it’s a team game and no-one can do it on their own.
“I’ve been enjoying my football probably more than I ever have and when you are enjoying your football, you give your best performances.”
Meanwhile, Bale’s coach Andre Villas-Boas scooped the managerial prize for February after steering the club to three Premier League victories and helping them move into third place in the Premier League table.
“It’s been another excellent month and this is a reward we share with everyone,” said Villas-Boas.
“It doesn’t mean it stops here. We have teams in behind us chasing the same objectives. We have to bridge the gap and that will put us in a more comfortable position.
“At the moment everything is going well, but we have to keep this consistency going until the end of the season.”
Villas-Boas also reserved special praise for Bale, adding: “Gareth has been impressive.
“When you enjoy your football you can produce some moments of outstanding quality and that is exactly what is happening with Gareth at the moment. We all congratulate him for that.”
