Olivier Giroud is determined to become a “killer” in front of goal for Arsenal as he looks to build on his first season in north London.

The Frenchman, who moved to The Emirates from Montpellier last summer, has netted 17 goals in all competitions for Arsene Wenger’s men this term, including 11 in 33 Premier League games.

And the 26-year-old believes that it is crucial for strikers to develop a ruthless instinct in front of goal if they are to be successful.

“You have to be a killer in front of goal, even if you miss a chance you have to keep going and believe in your qualities,” Giroud told Arsenal Player.

“Even if you don’t score during four or five games, like I did, you have to keep focused and have a strong mentality. [Being a striker] is a lot of things, you need to be positive and always know where the target is.

“It is very special for a striker to score because whether it is a big game or not, it is always the same sensation.

“You feel better after you score, you feel more relieved and you try more things, you are more confident. It is like a drug and you are so peaceful after.”

Giroud will miss the Gunners’ next three games after Arsenal’s appeal against his red card at Fulham on Saturday was rejected by the FA.
