Arsenal have put the pressure on Tottenham, declares Olivier Giroud
Olivier Giroud believes Arsenal recent winning run has heaped the pressure on Tottenham in the race for a top-four finish
Olivier Giroud believes Arsenal have cranked up the pressure on Tottenham with their victory over Norwich City at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
The north Londoners were trailing 1-0 to the Canaries with less than 10 minutes to play, before Mikel Arteta’s penalty and goals from Giroud and Lukas Podolski capped an impressive turnaround to seal a 3-1 win.
Saturday’s victory hoisted Arsenal up to third place in the Premier League table with six games left to play ahead of Chelsea and Tottenham, who are both a point behind Arsene Wenger’s men.
A win over Everton on Tuesday night would further boost Arsenal’s Champions League qualification hopes – and Giroud believes the pressure is now on their north London rivals to respond.
“We never give up, and try to play until the end of the game; that’s one of our qualities,” said Giroud.
“We had a little bit of luck and it’s so good to win this game because we can put the pressure on Spurs.
“We know that all games will be difficult to win so we have to continue to keep focussed and take one game after another and grab maximum points.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Wenger praised Giroud for bouncing back from a “very average” first-half display against the Canaries after the break.
“I think he had a very, very average first half and a very, very positive and influential second half. He was much more in the game in the second half,” said Wenger.
“He looked in the first half like he was not on the move when he got the ball. In the second half he was much more mobile and that made a difference.”
