Ray Parlour believes Arsenal need to sign “three or four” top players this summer if the Gunners are to have any chance of competing with the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City.

Arsenal are currently third in the Premier League table with four games left to play ahead of the north Londoners’ showdown with United at The Emirates on Sunday.

The Gunners have been unable to mount a serious Premier League title challenge for some time and are 21 points behind newly-crowned champions United.

And former Arsenal midfielder Parlour feels that his old side must bring in significant reinforcements in the transfer window if they are to move up a level.

“It’s a massive summer for Arsenal,” Parlour told talkSPORT. “The big players want to play in the Champions League so how can you attract those sort of people if you’re not in it?

“Arsenal is one of those clubs that could be massive but they’ve got to make that extra step.

“They need to go out and spend that extra bit of money on better players, to make the team a better side.

“They need three or four top end players and then they can compete with Man City and Man United.”
