Gylfi Sigurdsson scored a late leveller to help Tottenham Hotspur secure a 2-2 draw with Everton and keep the north London side in the top four.

Elsewhere, Liverpool and West Ham United shared the spoils at Anfield, Wigan’s Shaun Maloney denied Queens Park Rangers three points and Papiss Cisse scored a late winner for Newcastle.

Here is the best of the Twitter reaction from the professionals past and present – in chronological order – after a hectic day of Premier League action.

Former Spurs chairman Lord Sugar ‏(@Lord_Sugar) is surprised by the early goal: “Blimey Adebayor in 35 seconds, one up!”

Tottenham legend Gary Lineker ‏(@GaryLineker) missed the goal: “Always miss the goals. Price you pay for tardiness. Adebayor finding a little goal scoring form at the right time.”

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville ‏(@GNev2) appreciates Everton’s work ethic: “What I like about Everton is they have some no BS/no nonsense players who just play well consistently!”

His brother and Toffees skipper Phil (‏@fizzer18) praises striker Victor Anichebe: “Great game of football from both teams – Anichebe was unplayable at times and deserved a goal well done lads!”

QPR striker Jay Bothroyd ‏(@jaybothroyd) wishes his team-mates all the best: “Good luck lads !!! Massive game and I think we can do it.”

Sunderland defender Carlos Cuellar ‏(@Cuellar24) gets excited as the Black Cats momentarily take the lead: “Gggooooooooooooooooolllllllllllll!!!! C’mon boys!!!”

Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini ‏(@fellainiM) was happy with their White Hart Lane display: “Well played, guys. Nice performance!!!!”

Newcastle defender Danny Simpson ‏(@dannysimpson) is elated: “What an end to the game. Absolutely buzzing with @CissePapiss goal.. Mint feeling to win in the last minute and fully deserved as well #nufc”

Stoke striker Michael Owen (‏@themichaelowen) likes Remy’s goal: “Now that is what you call ‘a finish’. #remy”

West Brom keeper Ben Foster ‏(@BenFoster) can’t believe the striker managed to score: “How is it even possible to side-foot-strike the ball that hard!!!!!? #remy”

Finally, Marseille midfielder Joey Barton ‏(@Joey7Barton) reckons that’s it for QPR: “Harsh free-kick given against QPR. Great technique from Maloney. Too much to do now. 2/3 relegation places sealed. Got to take a ball in the face for me. It’s only a ball. It won’t kill you. #qpr”
