Bayern Munich 2 Juventus 0: We lacked intensity, admits Chiellini
Bayern Munich 2 Juventus 0: Giorgio Chiellini admits his side struggled to find their feet after the Serie A leaders were well-beaten
Giorgio Chiellini admitted Juventus struggled to find their feet after the Serie A leaders were left with an uphill task in their Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich.
The Bundesliga side stunned Juventus after just 25 seconds when David Alaba’s deflected 35-yard shot crept past Gianluigi Buffon.
And Thomas Muller doubled the home side’s lead in the 63rd minute when he tapped home Mario Mandzukic’s cross to give the German outfit the advantage heading into next week’s return leg in Turin.
“We knew it was a difficult match for us,” said Chiellini. “Bayern played at an incredible tempo and we struggled to keep possession when we were trying to build our game from the back.
“We hoped to earn a better result tonight but there are 90 minutes left, we will have to play with more intensity, like Bayern did today.”
Meanwhile, Bayern’s Arjen Robben was pleased to see his side keep a clean sheet. He said: “We said before the game that the most important thing tonight was not to concede a goal. So in the end 2-0 at home is a good win.”
