Newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich were pitted against Barcelona in Friday’s Champions League semi-final draw.

In the other last-four encounter, Real Madrid will have to beat Borussia Dortmund over two legs to reach yet another European Cup final, while Chelsea face Basel and Benfica take on Fenerbahce in the Europa League semis.

Here is the best of the Twitter reaction from some of the players who will be involved in the semi-finals, and other professionals who are relishing the ties.

Madrid midfielder Mesut Özil ‏(@MesutOzil1088) will be returning to Germany: “It’s Dortmund. Looking forward to these games. We want to play the final. Hala Madrid Hala Madrid.”

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fàbregas (@cesc4official) reacts to the draw: “We are going to Munich! Nos vamos a Munich! Ens anem a Munich! #fcblive #championsleague”

It appears Barcelona players are not only telepathic on the pitch, but on Twitter too, as Gerard Pique (‏@3gerardpique) posts: “We are going to Munich!! #ChampionsLeague”

Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta (@andresiniesta) is relishing the Munich tie: “What an awesome semi-final coming our way!”

Former Middlesbrough midfielder Jan Aage Fjortoft ‏(@JanAageFjortoft) breaks down how he sees the semi-finals panning out: “Real Madrid will be small favourites against Dortmund. And Bayern are my favourites against Barcelona. Advantage Barcelona: – Messi – experience – unbeatable at their best – home last game; Bayern – more match-winners – better defence!”

Ex-Madrid defender Michel Salgado ‏(@TheRealSalgado) is pleased with Dortmund: “Very happy with the draw. Come on Madrid.”

Former Los Blancos striker Michael Owen ‏(@themichaelowen) reckons it will be a Madrid-Munich final: “Just got in from training and seen the Champions League draw. It’s a Madrid v Munich final for me.”

And Marseille midfielder Joey Barton (‏@Joey7Barton) agrees: “@themichaelowen with Bayern winning the final. Strongest team I’ve seen so far…”

Ex-Bayern Munich midfielder Dietmar Hamann (‏@DietmarHamann) agrees with Barton and Owen: “Madrid – Munich in the final for me.”

Former Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris ‏(@morriskid) says the Blues will do what Tottenham couldn’t: “Fear not Spurs..the Chelsea will deal with Basel on behalf of the English Premier League!! :-)”

Finally, Schalke striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar (‏@KJ_Huntelaar) is looking forward to the semi-finals – although he needs to be told the CORRECT draw: “Nice draw from @RvN1776 for CL semi-finals. My favorite draw was Real-Bayern and Barca-Dortmund!”
