We’re feeling the pressure, admits Chelsea’s Petr Cech
Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech admits Rafael Benítez's men are feeling the pressure ahead of their Basel clash
Petr Cech admits Chelsea are feeling the pressure ahead of their Europa League semi-final against Basel on Thursday night.
The Blues were denied a precious three points in their bid to finish in the top four after Luis Suárez scored a late leveller to salvage a 2-2 draw for Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
The west London side must now switch their focus to Europe as they look to win the Europa League for the first time, and Cech conceded Rafael Benítez’s men are feeling the heat ahead of their last-four first-leg in Switzerland.
“We are in a position where we fight for everything,” Cech told the London Evening Standard.
“We have a lot of pressure playing in the Europa League because we obviously want to win it.
Every league game we are in the fight for the top four places and it’s very tight there.”
Cech also questioned Kevin Friend’s decision to play so much added time in their stalemate at Anfield, with Suárez’s header coming in the 97th minute.
“We had a disappointing end to this game,” Cech added.
“It’s unusual to have six minutes. I have been a Chelsea player since 2004 and I have never had six minutes in my favour when I was losing.”
