Chelsea transfers: Bayer Leverkusen want Andre Schürrle to make a decision on his future amid interest from the Blues
Bayer Leverkusen have urged Andre Schürrle to make a decision on his future at the club amid interest from Chelsea.
The west Londoners are reportedly keen on signing the £20m-rated midfielder and Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Völler flew to London last week for discussions with Chelsea.
Schürrle, who is reported to have been a target of former Blues manager Andre Villas-Boas, has scored 11 goals and made six assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances this term.
Leverkusen are keen to resolve the playmaker’s future and not let the speculation drag on throughout the summer, giving manager Sami Hyypiä time to find a replacement should he leave.
“Last year, we had an enquiry, but it came very late,” Bayer Leverkusen’s general manager Wolfgang Holzhauser said. “This time, it is still relatively early, which is good.
“Andre is, alongside Mario Gotze, one of the best young players in Germany and if he leaves us, we will want cover for him. We want clarity as soon as possible.”
Holzhauser also revealed the Blues are still some distance from matching Leverkusen’s valuation of Schürrle.
“We are still quite a long way apart in terms of certain details,” he added.
“There are always two options: either Andre stays here or he leaves.”
