Chelsea transfers: ‘Fiorentina can’t afford Fernando Torres’ wages’
Chelsea striker: Fiorentina play down their chances of landing Blues striker Fernando Torres in the summer transfer window
Fiorentina aren’t weighing up a move for Chelsea striker Fernando Torres, according to La Viola sporting director Daniele Prade.
The 29-year-old has continued to struggle at the Blues this season, with the Spain international managing a modest seven goals in 32 Premier League appearances.
Fiorentina, who are fourth in Serie A, had been linked with a move for the former Liverpool striker amid reports Radamel Falcao has agreed to join Chelsea in the summer.
However, Prade doubts the Florence outfit could afford Torres’ wage demands.
“If these big names are linked to Fiorentina, it means that we are considered a great team,” Sky Sports News quotes him as saying.
“But some players right now are outside of the parameters of Italian football, especially in regard to wages.”
Fiorentina technical director Eduardo Macia admitted he was a big admirer of the Chelsea star, particularly from the striker’s spell with Steven Gerrard at Liverpool.
“He is a symbol,” Macia told Corriere dello Sport. “He is a player on a par with excellence, the one who plays only to win.
“He is a killer in the area and at Liverpool, with [Steven] Gerrard, they built a goal machine.”
