Chelsea’s win over Man United was a mental boost, says David Luiz
David Luiz says Chelsea's FA Cup triumph over Manchester United has filled the Blues with confidence ahead of Europa League clash
David Luiz says Chelsea’s FA Cup triumph over Manchester United has filled the Blues with confidence heading into Thursday’s Europa League showdown with Rubin Kazan.
After forcing a quarter-final replay by securing a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford, the west Londoners edged to a 1-0 win over the Premier League leaders at Stamford Bridge on Monday to book their place in the semi-finals against Manchester City.
And Luiz claims that victory has given the Blues a mental boost ahead of their Europa League quarter-final first leg against Rubin Kazan.
“Everybody’s confident, when you beat a big team like Manchester United it’s good for you mentally,” Luiz, who has made 43 appearances for Chelsea this term, told Chelsea’s website.
“This competition [the Europa League] is important for the club, the players and the fans, but it will be a difficult game against a team at a high level.
“Winning the trophy would give me two European titles, so hopefully we can achieve it.”
