David Seaman admits he is not sure if Wojciech Szczesny will reclaim his place as Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper after the Poland international was dropped in recent games.

The 22-year-old has been replaced by Lukasz Fabianski the Gunners starting line-up in recent games, with Arsene Wenger citing “mental fatigue” as the reason for dropping the shot-stopper.

Fabianski has conceded just one goal in three games since being thrown back into action – and Seaman, who made 564 appearances during his time at Arsenal, has been impressed with the Pole’s form since his return.

“When I was [at Arsenal], I was there for ages so it was great for my confidence,” Seaman told Sky Sports.

“Jens Lehmann was a quality goalkeeper. People remember him for being crazy but he was a quality goalkeeper.

“Since then, you’ve got a lot young goalkeepers coming in and it’s not easy for them.

“Arsenal’s a massive club and you’re under so much pressure all the time and it can sometimes get to the younger goalkeepers.

“I don’t know [if Szczesny will win back his No1 spot]. It’s quite interesting with Fabianski doing really well.

“He’s worked really hard since his injury and he looks totally different goalkeeper. But it’s great to have that competition.”
