Everton transfers: QPR's Harry Redknapp says Phil Neville would be a great signing but expects the midfielder to stay in the top flight
Harry Redknapp believes Phil Neville would be a great addition to his Queens Park Rangers squad, but expects the Everton midfielder to stay in the Premier League.
The 35-year-old is set leave the Toffees at the end of the current campaign to secure regular first-team football after a successful eight seasons at Goodison Park.
With QPR facing near-certain relegation to the Championship, Redknapp is already eyeing potential recruits over the summer to steer the club back to the top flight.
Although Redknapp would love to sign the former Manchester United midfielder, the Hoops boss reckons Neville will not have any trouble securing a move to another Premier League club.
“He would help you, of course. He’d help anybody. He’s a good player and a great pro,” said Redknapp.
“I’ve never spoken to him about coming here but I think he might get a few offers from Premier League clubs who feel he could do a job for them.
“He would be a big influence around the club, dressing room and on the pitch.”
Redknapp also rubbished claims he is angry with QPR goalkeeper Júlio Cesar after the Champions League winner was pictured wearing a Chelsea shirt at David Luiz’s 26th birthday party.
The Hoops released a statement saying that the club would deal with the matter internally, but Redknapp played down the incident, insisting Cesar had not intended to cause QPR supporters any offence.
“It was a bit of fun. He was round his mate’s house and he put a wig and Chelsea kit on. He was having a laugh with David Luiz – two Brazilian boys. It was just a bit of fun.”
