FA Cup win would alter Man City’s season, claims Roberto Mancini
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini says their season would be viewed in a different light if the Citizens can win the FA Cup
Roberto Mancini says Manchester City’s season will be viewed in a different light if the Citizens manage to win the FA Cup and finish second in the Premier League.
City have struggled to back up their league triumph last season and trail Manchester United by 12 points after last Monday night’s 2-1 victory in the derby at Old Trafford.
Mancini’s men also crashed out of the Champions League at the group stage and were beaten by Aston Villa in the Capital One Cup, leaving the FA Cup as their only chance of silverware this term.
Chelsea stand in City’s way of a second Wembley final in three years, and Mancini is adamant their season will be viewed much differently if they can win the FA Cup crown.
“Yeah, for sure [it would change how our season is viewed]. It is very important to continue to win trophies. I don’t think it will be easy because Sunday will be a difficult game. But it will be important,” said Mancini.
Earlier in the week, former City boss Kevin Keegan branded talk of Mancini being sacked by the Citizens as “ridiculous” despite a below-par campaign by the club’s high standards.
However, Mancini does not feel under any added pressure ahead of Sunday’s semi-final clash despite speculation surrounding his future at the defending league champions.
“It will only be the same pressure that any team would have playing in a semi-final,” he added.
“It is important that we have the same concentration that we had against United and we play the same football we have played in the last two or three weeks. It is important that we have a good attitude for this game.
“It is important for me, for the players, for the club because it is another semi-final and we have the chance to reach another final and to win another trophy.”
