Cristiano Ronaldo admitted Real Madrid made life difficult for themselves after they booked their place in the Champions League semi-finals despite suffering a defeat at Galatasaray.

With Los Blancos leading 3-0 from the first leg at the Bernabeu last week, Ronaldo put the visitors ahead in the eighth minute when he expertly turned home Sami Khedira’s cross.

However, Emmanuel Eboue thumped home a brilliant strike in the 57th minute to bring the hosts level on the night, before goals from Wesley Sneijder and Didier Drogba gave the Turkish outfit hope of a remarkable revival.

But Ronaldo had the final say when he fired in his second in stoppage time to wrap up a 5-3 aggregate win for Jose Mourinho’s men.

“We’re very happy at going through,” said the 28-year-old Ronaldo. “We have achieved our objective and now we’ll wait and see who we draw in the next round.

“We made life difficult for ourselves. In football you get nothing for free. We have to use this as a lesson and play for the whole 90 minutes in the future.”

Ronaldo added: “I feel good, I feel motivated. The team gives me good passes and I do my job, which is scoring goals.”
