We’ll be back! Gareth Barry says Man City will respond next season
Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry says the Citizens will return stronger next season after a disappointing campaign
Gareth Barry believes Manchester City will be stronger next season after a disappointing campaign for the defending Premier League champions.
The Citizens find themselves 15 points behind league leaders and bitter rivals Manchester United, with a derby victory at Old Trafford last week a mere consolation for Roberto Mancini’s men.
Key players such as Sergio Aguero and David Silva have failed to hit the same heights as last season, which saw the Eastlands outfit claim their first top-flight title since 1968.
But Barry believes City will learn from this season’s experience and return a much-improved squad for the 2013-14 campaign.
“It is frustrating in many ways because we’ve shown what a great team we are and what a strong we have in the last few games,” Barry told City’s website.
“So it’s only natural to think that had weplayed at our best all year we could have had a great chance of retaining the title, but that’s probably not going to be now.
“We’ve had injuries this year we didn’t have last time around and we have almost a fully-fit squad now and I think it shows.
“Micah is just about there now and the manager can pick his strongest squad which I don’t think he’s been able to very often – if at all this season.
“All we can do is take each game as it comes, play our best and try and win . Next season we will be back and have learned from what has happened and the aim will be to win the title back.”
Barry has scored eight goals in 166 appearances for City after completing a £12m move to the Citizens from Aston Villa in 2009.
