John Terry has warned Chelsea that Paolo Di Canio will have Sunderland fully motivated when the Black Cats travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The Italian was named as Martin O’Neill’s successor at the Stadium of Light last week and takes his side to west London as they look to steer clear of relegation danger.

Chelsea could find themselves in fifth place ahead of the game if Arsenal win at West Brom as both clubs vie for a top-four finish – and Terry is wary of the threat posed by Di Canio’s men.

“It is going to be really tough with their new manager coming in,” Terry told Chelsea’s website.

“Paolo Di Canio was a fantastic player and he will certainly have them up for it, and you could see how organised Swindon were in the short time he was there.

“But we must win and keep winning games in the league because this club must be involved in the Champions League.”
