Lampard wary of Tevez threat ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Man City
Frank Lampard points to Carlos Tevez as the key threat ahead of Chelsea's FA Cup semi-final clash with Manchester City on Sunday
Frank Lampard has singled out Carlos Tevez as the key threat ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final clash with Manchester City on Sunday.
Tevez was in sparkling form for the Citizens as they stalled Manchester United’s title bid with a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford on Monday night.
The Argentina international has scored 10 Premier League goals for City this season and helped fire Roberto Mancini’s men into the FA Cup semi-finals with a hat-trick in the 5-0 thrashing of Barnsley last month.
And Lampard needs no reminding of the threat posed by the 29-year-old ahead of Sunday’s showdown at Wembley.
“There are a few key threats. Tevez is a fantastic player, I love his energy and his quality, he’s always a threat and he’s done it against us a few times,” Lampard, who has scored 14 goals this season, told Chelsea’s website.
“[Sergio] Aguero, with what he did the other night, his speed off the mark and his ability, they have them all over, [David] Silva, [Yaya] Toure, so you can’t isolate Tevez but he is a fantastic player.”
City look set to relinquish their Premier League title to rivals United this season but Lampard insists their 12-point deficit to the leaders does not reflect their quality.
“I’ve seen some people be quite negative about them this year because they set a level last year,” he continued.
“It’s been difficult this year for a lot of teams because Manchester United have been very consistent in the league and pulled away, but Manchester City are a top football team.”
