Liverpool 2 Chelsea 2: Brendan Rodgers refuses to comment on Luis Suárez's apparent bite on Branislav Ivanovic
Brendan Rodgers refused to comment on Luis Suárez’s apparent bite on Branislav Ivanovic after watching his Liverpool side rescue a point at the death against Chelsea.
The Liverpool striker was pictured appearing to sink his teeth into the Chelsea defender in the second half at Anfield, before the Uruguayan netted a late equaliser deep into stoppage time.
“The only comment at this stage is that we’ll review it with the video and we’ll make a comment after that,” said Rodgers.
“I’ve only just come in after the game and have seen the opportunities from a football perspective. Once I have a look at that, then we’ll make a comment from there.
“Until you review it you can’t speak about it. I have been made aware of the incident but we will review it after the game.
“There will be something to be said if so, but it is not now.”
Oscar had headed Chelsea into a first-half lead, but substitute Daniel Sturridge equalised shortly after half-time when he poked home Suárez’s pass.
Chelsea again went in front when Eden Hazard dispatched his penalty after Suárez handled a cross in the box.
But the Liverpool striker had the final say when he pounced on Sturridge’s pass to net his 23rd league goal of the season in the 97th minute at Anfield.
Asked about the biting incident, Chelsea boss Rafael Benítez said: “I have not seen it, the players told me about it. We are not talking about that, we are so disappointed about the late goal.”
Former Ajax captain Suárez was handed a seven-match ban for biting PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal in November 2010.
