Liverpool transfers: Reds legend Ian Rush expects Uruguay international Luis Suárez to stay at Anfield beyond the summer
Ian Rush believes Liverpool striker Luis Suárez will stay at Anfield beyond the summer.
The Uruguay international’s future at the 18-time English champions was cast in doubt after biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in a 2-2 draw at Anfield on Sunday.
The Liverpool forward accepted a charge of violent conduct but insisted his ban should only be three matches, while also apologising the Serbia international.
The Reds managing director Ian Ayre has already insisted Suárez will see out the remainder of his contract, which the South American signed last August.
And Rush, who scored 346 goals in his Liverpool career, is fully confident the former Ajax man will be involved in the club’s tour of Australia in July.
“He’s a fantastic player and I am sure he will be here on the pre-season tour,” Rush told the Liverpool Echo.
“The match pretty much sold out in a few hours which just underlines the pulling power of Liverpool across the world.
“Juventus played over here recently and there were 30 or 40,000 at that match – but to sell out a stadium this size so quickly is incredible.”
Suarez has scored 23 Premier League goals this season, with the Uruguayan named on the six-man shortlist for the PFA player of the year award.
