Liverpool transfers: Brendan Rodgers insists Reds will not be forced to sell their star players such as Luis Suárez this summer
Brendan Rodgers insists Liverpool will not be forced to sell their star players such as Luis Suárez this summer, despite the Reds set to miss out on Champions League qualification again.
There has been mounting speculation that Premier League top scorer Suárez could be ready to quit Merseyside in the summer in search of Champions League football.
But Rodgers, whose side moved up to seventh in the table with Sunday’s 2-1 win at Aston Villa, insists Liverpool have no plans to offload their top players.
“It is very important we keep hold of Luis. He is a wonderful player,” said Rodgers.
“We don’t have to sell Luis. There is nothing like that. He is very happy and we don’t need to sell him for the money or anything like that.
“Our job is trying to build the group here and add to it. We’ve bought front and midfield players and we want to keep striving forward and there is no need to sell.”
Suárez has scored 25 goals in 36 appearances for Liverpool this season and currently tops the Premier League goal-scoring charts with 22 strikes to his name.
