Man City transfers: Jetro Willems ends speculation by signing PSV deal
Man City transfers: PSV Eindhoven defender Jetro Willems ends speculation linking him with the Citizens by signing a new deal
Jetro Willems has ended speculation linking the PSV Eindhoven defender with a summer switch to Manchester City by signing a contract extension.
The 19-year-old has impressed for PSV, scoring once in 49 appearances over the past two seasons, after making a move to Eindhoven from Sparta Rotterdam in 2011.
The young left-back rose to prominence after a series of promising performances in Netherlands’s Euro 2012 campaign, attracting interest from City.
The Citizens were reported to be willing to offer striker John Guidetti in a part-exchange deal, but Willems has committed his future to PSV until 2017.
“When I came here from Sparta Rotterdam I had not achieved anything,” he told PSV’s website. “Now I have already played at the European championship.”
Willems wants to celebrate signing a new deal with the one-time European Cup winners by lifting the Eredivisie title.
PSV have not won the league crown since 2008, and the youngster urged his team-mates to beat Ajax this weekend, which would put them in pole position.
“We want to be crowned champions and therefore we need a win over Ajax on Sunday”, added Willems.
