Man City transfers: Patrick Vieira wants Samir Nasri to stay
Man City transfers: Citizens football development officer Patrick Vieira wants Samir Nasri to stay beyond the summer
Patrick Vieira wants Samir Nasri to stay at Manchester City beyond the summer despite a disappointing season for the playmaker.
The 24-year-old has struggled to impress this season, scoring once in 12 Premier League appearances and prompting criticism from manager Roberto Mancini.
The France international netted only his fourth goal of the season in City’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday.
And although City football development officer Vieira hinted Nasri could leave at the end of the season, the former Arsenal midfielder believes his compatriot does have a future at the Eastlands outfit.
“Samir could have done better,” Vieira told Radio Monte Carlo.
“I think, he, himself, is disappointed with the level he played at for several different reasons. But in the end, he remains an important player for us.
“I see him almost daily. I think he has learned a lot this year. He has faced competition and, when he was not good enough, he has been taken off. It has been an important season for him and I am sure he will come back even stronger.
“I hope he will stay. Time will tell. It’s important to build a team on the long term. Samir is a very good player, a young player and I hope he will stay with us for a long time.”
Nasri has scored nine goals in 63 appearances for City after completing a £25m move to the Citizens from Arsenal in 2011.
