Man United transfers: Borussia Dortmund confirm midfielder Mario Götze is set to join Bayern Munich in the summer
Borussia Dortmund have confirmed Mario Götze will move to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in a £32m deal this summer.
The 20-year-old had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer after scoring 16 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions this season.
And Dortmund, who face Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first-leg on Wednesday, revealed that the midfielder is set to move to the Allianz Arena at the end of the season.
“Mario Götze’s agent Volker Struth told us a few days ago that the player wishes to make use of his release clause and on July 1, 2013 move to Bayern Munich,” read a Dortmund statement.
“Coach Jurgen Klopp and sporting director Michael Zorc ask all fans of Borussia Dortmund to support Mario Götze unconditionally as they would any other player in the final games of the season, but especially in the important Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid.”
Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke admitted the club were disappointed to see their highly-rated midfielder signal his intent to move to Munich but stressed that Götze had not acted inappropriately.
“We are obviously disappointed beyond measure, but emphasise that both Mario and his advisers have behaved within the terms of the contract,” Watzke said.
“From Bayern Munich there has been nothing official on this matter up to this date.”
