Man United transfers: Ferguson hints at summer Lewandowski move
Sir Alex Ferguson has hinted that Manchester United could make a move to sign Robert Lewandowski this summer
Sir Alex Ferguson has hinted that Manchester United could make a move to sign Robert Lewandowski this summer.
The Borussia Dortmund striker has been heavily linked with a move away from the Bundesliga side in recent months, with Old Trafford touted as a possible destination for the 24-year-old.
Lewandowski is also understood to be on Bayern Munich’s radar – but Ferguson has left the door ajar for a possible move for the Poland striker, who has scored 31 goals in 42 games this season.
“Bayern [Munich] are strong in that one too aren’t they?” said Ferguson when asked about Lewandowski.
“We’ll just have to wait and see where we are in terms of if we win the league. Maybe then we’ll view it differently.”
Asked about his overall transfer plans for the summer, Ferguson insisted that he is not planning a radical overhaul of his squad.
“I think it’ll be minor,” said Ferguson when asked about rebuilding in the summer. “Maybe but I don’t know.
“It depends on a lot of things like the availability of players. Not everybody wants to sell their players. What do we need?
“We have a reasonable group of young players in [Shinji] Kagawa, [Jonny] Evans, [Chris] Smalling, [Phil] Jones, Rafael, Fabio will be back, [Alex] Büttner, [David] De Gea, [Tom] Cleverley, [Danny] Welbeck and Chicharito [Javier Hernandez].
“They’re all in a really young age group that can last quite a few years and we expect improvement from the younger players in the team.”
