Man United deserve Premier League title, admits Roberto Mancini
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini says Manchester United deserve their Premier League title success
Roberto Mancini has admitted Manchester United had a better attitude than Manchester City this season and deserve their Premier League title success.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s men wrapped up a 20th top-flight title courtesy of an emphatic 3-0 victory over Aston Villa on Monday night, with Robin van Persie scoring a hat-trick.
Mancini’s men currently trail the Red Devils by 16 points, and the City boss pointed to stalemates with Liverpool and Queens Park Rangers and a loss at Southampton in January and February as the title race’s turning point.
“They deserve to win this title because they won a lot of games in a row,” said Mancini.
“The crucial moment was when we played QPR, Liverpool, Southampton. That moment we had big problems with our players injured. We lost key points. United have more attitude than us, as a club, as a team.”
Mancini also conceded United’s big lead provided City with plenty of time to accept their fate, admitting Ferguson’s men were simply more consistent than his league champions throughout the season.
“It was over three, four, five games ago, not mathematically but it was over. They deserve to win this title, many congratulations to Manchester United for the work they did this season.
“They did better than us, they won a lot of games in a row, it was really difficult. We should be also realistic. If there is one team that did better than you, you can do nothing.”
City can finish a disappointing season in style by winning their second FA Cup crown in three seasons when they face Wigan Athletic at Wembley on 11 May.
