Sir Alex Ferguson heaps praise on David De Gea as the goalkeeper continues to impress for Manchester United
Sir Alex Ferguson has heaped praise on David De Gea as the goalkeeper continues to impress for Manchester United.
The Spanish shot-stopper was handed a tough test against a battling West Ham side as the Red Devils edged closer to the title with a 2-2 draw at Upton Park on Wednesday night.
The 22-year-old, who has kept 10 clean sheets this season, was clattered to the ground by Hammers striker Andy Carroll just before half-time but responded well to the physical nature of the Upton Park clash.
And Ferguson singled out the Spaniard, who endured a shaky start to his United career, for special praise after the game in east London.
“David’s been improving all season. He’s developing into a fantastic goalkeeper,” Ferguson told Sky Sports.
“He’s got stronger and his training performances are really good. He showed that tonight again and he’s developed into a really first-class goalkeeper.”
De Gea, who joined the Red Devils in a £20m deal from Atletico Madrid in 2011, has made 35 appearances for Manchester United in all competitions this season.
