Chris Hughton believes Norwich City have more work to do before securing their Premier League status despite a narrow victory over Reading at Carrow Road.

Norwich duo Ryan Bennett and Elliot Bennett scored a quick-fire double for the home side in the 50th and 52nd minute after a tight first half.

The Royals, who are bottom of the Premier League, hit back through Garath McCleary but it proved nothing more than a mere consolation for Nigel Adkins’s side.

Reading are now 10 points from safety with four games remaining, while the Canaries moved onto 38 points after their crucial victory.

“We’re certainly not safe yet although the win will help us get to where we want to be,” Hughton told BBC Sport.

“All we can do is put ourselves in the best position we can. We have four more games to get the required points.”

Meanwhile, Adkins said he was satisfied with Reading’s performance but was critical of their crucial lapse in concentration at the start of the second half.

“We’ve done well in the first half and controlled the ball in the second half,” Adkins said.

“But the damage was done with Norwich scoring two goals in two minutes. There’s a reason for why we are where we are in the table. We need to analyse this and move on.”
