Demba Ba booked Chelsea’s place in the FA Cup last four after his strike secured a 1-0 victory over Manchester United on Monday.

The former Newcastle United striker netted in the 49th minute, before Javier Hernandez and Robin van Persie came close to levelling at Stamford Bridge.

Here is the best of the Twitter reaction from the professionals, both past and present, to Chelsea’s cup success after they booked a semi-final showdown with Manchester City.

Swansea forward Wayne Routledge ‏(@WayneRoutledge) has a tough decision make: “Gym or football on the sofa??? Decisions, decisions…”

Former United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel ‏(@Pschmeichel1) would like to see Danny Welbeck to add goals to his repertoire: “Welbeck looks sharp and on top form, but why did he pass that to Nani…? How well is Danny Welbeck playing? Spice it up with a goal son….”

Ex-Crystal Palace forward Mark Bright (‏@Mark__Bright) is bored by the semi-final: “Somebody do something #cfc v #mufc #FACup!”

Everton midfielder Phil Neville (‏@fizzer18) is impressed by Antonio Valencia: “I know it’s not his favourite position but Valencia is a bloody good right back – pace, strength, good passer…”

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore (‏@StanCollymore) gives his take on the first half: “United conservative but excellent defensive unit. Chelsea can’t get behind them enough. United need to be more clinical on counter.”

Ex-Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris (‏@morriskid) hails Ba’s strike: “What a goal!!! Badoof!!!”

Marseille midfielder Joey Barton (‏@Joey7Barton) is impressed by his strike: “Great toe noggey from Demba Ba there 1-0…”

Former Olympian Jonathan Edwards (‏@JDE66) reckons it is the strike of the season: “Goal of the season #ba”

QPR striker Jay Bothroyd ‏(@jaybothroyd) heaps praise on Ba: “What a goal !!!!!!!! Great ball great finish.”

Ireland midfielder David Meyler (‏@DavidMeyler) is left speechless by Cech’s save to deny Javier Hernández: “Unbelievable save!”

And former West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop ‏(@ShakaHislop) gives his analysis of both goalkeepers: “My word Petr!!! Maybe not the keeper he once was but still one of the very best! Simple things to look for with goalkeepers. David De Gea does not go for ‘the eyes’
from Mata, shows real and growing self-confidence. Great to see.”
