Harry Redknapp admitted Queens Park Rangers’ hopes of Premier League survival are in “tatters” after an emphatic loss to Stoke City at Loftus Road.

Former Hoops forward Peter Crouch put the visitors ahead in the 42nd minute as the striker combined with Cameron Jerome before firing past QPR goalkeeper Rob Green.

Stoke, who have been sucked into the relegation battle in recent weeks, doubled their lead in the 77th minute when Jonathan Walters scored from the spot.

Redknapp’s side are now 10 points from safety with four games remaining, while the Potters moved six points clear of 18th-placed Wigan Athletic, who lost to West Ham.

“I couldn’t have asked for any more, we gave everything we had, worked hard and in the first half we were the better team,” Redknapp told BBC Sport.

“It looks in tatters doesn’t it? It’s very difficult. We’ve got to try to win a game or two, we’ve got to go to Reading next week and try to win. It looks almost impossible doesn’t it.
It would take a real miracle.

“It’s difficult but life is not always fun. What am I going to do – play golf every day? You don’t walk into a side that hasn’t won for 13 games and start winning every week. It’s probably more difficult than I thought – there’s an awful lot of work that needs to be done here.

“People say this team will come straight back up -that’s rubbish. There needs to be an awful lot of work done over the summer for this team to be in contention next season.”
