QPR transfers: Hoops midfielder Joey Barton reiterates his desire to stay at Marseille beyond his loan deal
Joey Barton has underlined his desire to stay at Marseille beyond his season-long loan at the Ligue 1 outfit.
The midfielder joined l’OM from Queens Park Rangers at the start of the season after being deemed surplus to requirements by former Hoops boss Mark Hughes.
Barton has slotted effortlessly into the Marseille side, helping them launch a league title bid, with one goal and three assists in 24 appearances for the Stade Velodrome outfit.
Earlier this month, QPR chairman Tony Fernandes rebuked Barton’s claims that the one-time England international had already agreed a permanent deal with Marseille.
But Fernandes’s Twitter post has not deterred the controversial midfielder from declaring his desire to stay at the French club beyond his loan deal.
“As a football player I don’t want to play for any other football club,” Barton told French Football Weekly.
“For Marseille, for me to stay here. It suits everyone – it suits me, the fans love me, and I love them. I think they see that you care
“I don’t need any convincing. For me, I’m more than happy to stay here. I envisage myself playing for another 6-8 years, I won’t retire, they’ll have to carry me off the pitch.”
