He’s the real deal! Aldridge hails Coutinho’s impact at Liverpool
Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge backs January signing Philippe Coutinho to build on his impressive start to life at Anfield

John Aldridge believes Philippe Coutinho is the “real deal” after the Brazilian’s instant impact at Liverpool.
The 20-year-old was in impressive form in a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday, with the midfielder’s threaded pass teeing up Jordan Henderson for the visitors’ first goal.
The Brazil international has now netted two strikes and made three goals since joining Liverpool in a £8.5m deal from Inter Milan in the January transfer window.
And Aldridge, who won a top-flight title with the Reds in 1988, reckons Coutinho will build on his opening months at the Merseyside outfit and continue to produce match-winning performances.
“It’s early in his Liverpool career, but what a talent Philippe Coutinho looks,” Aldridge wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo.
“Make no mistake, we have signed a player here. His contribution at Villa Park was decisive, and thrilling.
“He still has a bit of work to do on his physique and his stamina, and pre-season will be important in his development, but in terms of his work on the ball he’s a genius.
“He’s the kind of player Liverpool have been in desperate need of for many a year. Early days, yes, but what promising signs.”
