Roberto Mancini has claimed that his Manchester City side do not deserve to be so far behind Manchester United in the Premier League table.

Mancini’s men head into Monday night’s derby showdown at Old Trafford 15 points behind their neighbours, who are gunning for their 20th top-flight title.

The Citizens’ chances of retaining their Premier League crown this season are looking slim but the Italian is adamant that the table “is not telling the truth”.

“We do not deserve to be 15 points behind Manchester United,” Mancini said.

“They play very well and have won a lot of games and they deserved to stay on top but not by 15 points.

“The table is not true. Now we have eight games and if we win a lot of those games maybe we can close that gap.”
