Scott Parker insists that it would be a “massive” achievement for Tottenham to reach the Europa League final ahead of Spurs’ last-eight clash with Basel.

The north Londoners face the Swiss side at White Hart Lane in the first leg of their quarter-final tie on Thursday night as they look to take a step closer to the last four.

“We’re coming off a positive result at Swansea and we’re all looking forward to it,” Parker said.

“The next game is always the most important, but we’re at the point now where we’re a couple of games away from the final. We’re getting to the nitty-gritty stage of the season now.

“It would be massive to get to the final. Ask any player and those are the days you all want. It would really round off a good season if we could get there.”

Tottenham v Basel: Pre-match facts

• Tottenham’s five games against Swiss sides have ended W3 D0 L2 (W2 D0 L1 at home). Those five matches produced 22 goals, with Tottenham scoring four or more in their three victories.

• The last time Basel reached the quarter-finals of this competition, in 2005/06, they were eliminated by another English club, Middlesbrough, despite winning the first leg 2-0 at home.

• Spurs are on a four-game winning streak at home in Europe.

• Tottenham could become the fourth side to lift this trophy for a third time, along with Juventus, Inter and Liverpool.
