Three people have been killed and dozens more injured after two explosions hit the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday.

The explosions occurred within 20 seconds of each other as runners finished annual race, which is one of the most popular sporting events in the US.

Sports stars were quick to rally together on Twitter to post messages of support to those affected by the blasts.
