Gareth Bale insists that Tottenham got their season “back on track” with Saturday’s battling victory at Swansea City.

Goals from Jan Vertonghen and Bale fired the north Londoners into a 2-0 lead at the Liberty Stadium but a second-half header from Michu set up a tense finale.

However, Andre Villas-Boas’ men held on for the win to take another step towards Champions League qualification and move up to third place in the Premier League table.

Spurs went into Saturday’s game following back-to-back league defeats and the 23-year-old Bale, who has now scored 17 league goals this term, believes the Lilywhites are now well-placed to push on in the run-in.

“We knew it was going to be difficult and it was a massive win for us,” Bale told Tottenham’s website.

“We’d had a couple defeats in the Premier League and we just wanted to stop that and get our season back on track. We did that and I thought we’d thoroughly deserved the win.

“We showed both sides of our game, not just attacking but defending as well. As I said, it was a great result and that pushes us right back up the table.”
