Tottenham transfers: Andre Villas-Boas underlines his desire to keep Danny Rose at Spurs when the defender's Sunderland loan finishes
Andre Villas-Boas has underlined his desire to keep Danny Rose at Tottenham Hotspur when the youngster’s Sunderland loan spell finishes at the end of the season.
Rose scored Sunderland’s consolation strike in a 6-1 loss to Aston Villa at Villa Park on Monday night – a result which leaves the Blacks Cats level with Paul Lambert’s men and Newcastle United on 37 points.
The England Under-21 international, who can count himself unlucky to miss out on a young player of the year nomination, has also made one assist in 27 appearances for Sunderland.
The 22-year-old has impressed despite a difficult campaign for the Stadium of Light outfit and the defender recently expressed his interest in a permanent move to Wearside.
But Villas-Boas is keen to keep hold of the promising left-back beyond the summer.
“A permanent move is impossible because we have great expectations for the player,” Villas-Boas said. “He has a bright future. We appreciate what he’s been doing there and it’s been a great experience.
“He’s been extremely well managed. We can’t give away a player of his quality.”
Rose has made 29 first-team appearances for Spurs after scoring in a 2-1 victory over Arsenal in April 2010 on his debut for the north London side.
