Manchester City reached their second FA Cup final in three seasons after the Citizens secured a 2-1 victory over the holders Chelsea at Wembley.

Samir Nasri put Roberto Mancini’s side ahead in the first half before Sergio Aguero doubled his side’s lead, with Demba Ba scoring a late consolation.

Here is a selection of our favourite tweets from the professionals in chronological order to City’s win, as well as Manchester United’s 2-0 win at Stoke City.

United striker Robin van Persie ‏(@R20vanPersie) is pleased to end his goalless run: “A great result for us!! 2-0. Thank you for your support as always!! Six games left now, let’s build on today and get stronger to bring the trophy back to Old Trafford!”

Red Devils centre-half Rio Ferdinand (‏@rioferdy5) echoes Van Persie’s words: “Great win, support was magnificent too! You have to grind out results here and we did that well today. The wind today was a wind up I’m sure!”

Stoke striker Michael Owen ‏(@themichaelowen) is confident the Potters will still be safe: “Disappointing result today but our fans stuck by us until the end. Five cup finals to play, I’m sure we will be ok.”

Everton midfielder Phil Neville (‏@fizzer18) is enjoying the semi-final: “Great start to this City vs Chelsea game.”

Former Fulham striker Brian McBride ‏(@BMcBride20) reckons Ba could be crucial to Chelsea’s chances: “Wondering why Ba is drifting onto Kompany’s side all the time? Surely he’d rather not battle the big man. Chelsea are going to need more from him, or I could see the in-form masked man coming on. On the flip side Yaya Toure has been spectacular.”

Ex-West Ham United defender Julian Dicks ‏(@JULIAN3DICKS) is impressed by Aguero’s goal: “Great header by Aguero, 5ft 6ins size doesn’t matter!”

Former Southampton striker James Beattie ‏(@Jamesbeattie) hails Aguero’s determination: “Aguero never got the ball on his first run, instantly made another. Great movement, class header. Even at that level, defenders ball watch.”

Brazil legend Ronaldo (‏@ClaroRonaldo) praises City’s first- half performance: “Manchester City are playing a fantastic game. ‘@memeny: @ClaroRonaldo what do u think of the city / Chelsea game?’”

Ex-Newcastle defender Warren Barton (‏@warrenbarton2) is excited as Ba halves the deficit: “Game on!!!”

And former Aston Villa midfielder Ian Taylor ‏(@IanTaylor7) is impressed by Ba’s clinical finish: “Beauty from @dembabafoot!! Game on!! #CFC 1 #MCFC 2 #FACup”

QPR defender Chris Samba (‏@cs4christsamba1) can see Chelsea levelling the semi-final: “End-to-end football, if Chelsea get one more then I think they will take it!”

But Chelsea can’t find an equaliser, and City captain Vincent Kompany (‏@VincentKompany) is delighted to reach the FA Cup final: “We’re in the final!! #MCFC”

Injured City midfielder David Silva (@21LVA) praises his team-mates: “Great job by the team today, another final @MCFC #ComeOnCity”

And City defender Pablo Zabaleta (@pablo_zabaleta) is similarly delighted: “Another FA Cup final. Come on @MCFC !!!!!”
