Andre Villas-Boas has heaped praise on the “deadly” Clint Dempsey after the Tottenham striker’s goal and assist fired Spurs to victory at Stoke City.
The United States international cancelled out Steven NZonzi’s opener at the Britannia Stadium before slotting a pass across goal for Emmanuel Adebayor to tap home late on.
And Villas-Boas, whose side are now fourth in the Premier League table ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Wigan on Tuesday, was full of praise for Dempsey after the game.
“It was an amazing game from Clint Dempsey. He has the instincts of a deadly striker,” Villas-Boas is quoted as saying by talkSPORT.
“Today he scored and assisted Emmanuel Adebayor for his goal. It was a great performance by him. He is a player who deserves a lot of credit.”
Dempsey has scored seven league goals this season and was delighted to help Spurs keep their Champions League qualification hopes alive.
“You always want to be a player that chips in with goals and assists,” said the striker. “I’m glad I’ve scored some important goals this season and a few assists as well.”
Tottenham host Sunderland in their final game of the Premier League season next weekend.
