Arsenal transfers: Paul Lambert insists Matt Lowton is not for sale amid reported interest from Arsenal in the young right-back
Paul Lambert insists Aston Villa youngster Matt Lowton is not for sale amid reported interest from Arsenal.
The 23-year-old has been one of Villa’s most impressive performers this term after Lambert signed the right-back for £2m from Sheffield United last summer.
Lowton caught the eye with a stunning long-range volley from 40 yards in a 3-1 victory over Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium in April.
With Bacary Sagna struggling with form and injuries this season, Arsene Wenger has been linked with a potential move for the Villa starlet in the summer.
But Lambert, whose side are five points clear of 18th-placed Wigan Athletic, is adamant Villa will not be looking to sell the former Blades man at the end of the season.
“You can’t stop people speculating. That’s football all over the world. But he’s our player,” said Lambert.
“He’s been playing very well. If people are talking about him, that means he’s playing well.
“It becomes frustrating if you do have to lose ones when you’re trying to build. At the end of the day, the decision is my own if I let people go. That would always be the case.”
