Wenger vows to give Podolski chance to prove himself as striker at Arsenal
Arsene Wenger vows to give Lukas Podolski the chance to prove himself as a central striker in Arsenal's remaining games
Arsene Wenger has promised to give Lukas Podolski the chance to prove himself as a central striker in Arsenal’s remaining games this season.
The Gunners are currently without the suspended Olivier Giroud and the Germany international took on a central role in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United before being replaced by Gervinho in the second half.
And Wenger has backed the 27-year-old Podolski, who has scored 14 goals in all competitions in his first season at Arsenal, to prove his worth as a forward in the games to come.
“It believe so [that Podolski can be effective in the middle], he has the qualities because he is a good finisher,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.
“He has a good technique and because we have a game based on very quick combinations I believe he can be a part of that. Overall I am convinced in the coming games he will show it.
“At the moment, yes [I will play Podolski in the middle]. A definite decision has not been made but if there is an opportunity then there is a good chance I will do it.”
Arsenal travel to Queens Park Rangers in their next Premier League game on Saturday as they look to keep alive their hopes of Champions League qualification.
