Brendan Rodgers has bought well, says Everton’s David Moyes
Everton manager David Moyes says his Liverpool counterpart Brendan Rodgers has bought well ahead of the Merseyside derby
David Moyes has praised Brendan Rodgers for his astute signings at Liverpool ahead of Everton’s trip to Anfield on Sunday.
Liverpool sent their local rivals a warning with an emphatic 6-0 victory over Newcastle United last weekend, with Reds duo Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge both impressing at St James’ Park.
Moyes has proven to be a shrewd operator in the transfer market over the past decade, but the Toffees boss reserved special praise for his Liverpool counterpart after the impact of his January signings.
“Brendan is a young manager who has come to a very big club,” said Moyes.
“It’s going to take him time to settle and I’m sure he’ll realise the magnitude of Liverpool Football Club and what is required.
“I think they have bought well. They have brought in some young players and they are trying to build for the long-term and a young team in the future. I think Brendan has done a good job.”
Moyes also backed Everton’s Marouane Fellaini to have a big say on the outcome of Sunday’s Merseyside derby as they look to secure a top-five finish.
The Belgium international has been a pivotal figure in the Toffees’s bid to qualify for Europe this season, with 11 goals in 28 Premier League appearances.
Fellaini has already scored against Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United, and Moyes wants the midfielder to add Liverpool to that list.
“He’s been better in all the big games,” Moyes added. “Let’s hope he does it again.
“He has been playing well at this moment in time and more of the same would go down nicely.”
