Chelsea transfers: ‘Blues agree deal to sign Andre Schürrle’
Chelsea transfers: Bayer Leverkusen general manager says Blues have agreed to sign Andre Schürrle this summer
Chelsea have reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Andre Schürrle in a deal which will see Kevin de Bruyne join the Bundesliga club on a season-long loan, the German side’s general manager has claimed.
The Blues have long been linked with a move for the 22-year-old striker and Bayer Leverkusen general manager Wolfgang Holzhauser claimed a deal had been agreed in principal on Thursday.
The transfer fee is understood to be in the region of £20m, and is reported to include the loan of De Bruyne, who has spent the 2012-13 campaign at Werder Bremen, for one season.
“We have reached an agreement with Chelsea,” Holzhäuser told the Rheinische Post newspaper.
“They are going to buy Andre Schürrle for a specific fee and, in return, they will loan De Bruyne to us for a year for free.
“I expect Chelsea to stand by what has been agreed.”
Germany international Schürrle, capped 23 times, has scored 11 goals and made six assists in 34 top-flight appearances for Leverkusen this season.
