Xabi Alonso insists he will be at Real Madrid next season despite reports linking the midfielder with a move to Chelsea.

The 31-year-old has been a key part of Madrid’s side after moving to the Spanish capital from Liverpool in a £30m deal in 2009.

Alonso’s current contract with the nine-time European champions is set to expire in 13 months and speculation has suggested he could quit Madrid.

With reports linking Jose Mourinho with a return to Stamford Bridge this summer, it has been suggested Alonso could follow his Los Blancos manager to west London.

But the former Reds midfielder poured cold water on a potential transfer to the Blues.

“Of course I’m going to be here next season,” Alonso told Marca after a 4-3 victory over Malaga on Wednesday night.

With Barcelona expected to wrap up a 22nd La Liga crown this weekend, Alonso says Madrid are focused on winning the Copa del Rey to salvage a disappointing season.

“It’s important to maintain good feelings, with an important match coming up next week,” the former Liverpool man told his club’s website.

“We prepared for this match [against Malaga] with the same seriousness as always and with the desire to do well.

“We’re mentally prepared for the cup final, it will be a tough match. It’s a clear objective, one we can achieve this year and nothing else can distract us. We all have to pull in the same direction.”
