David Luiz admits he is exhausted after Chelsea ended the season with a 2-1 victory against Everton to secure a third-place finish.

The Brazilian played 57 games for the Blues – and scored seven goals – as he helped them win their first Europa League title and secure a direct route into next season’s Champions League.

Luiz has earned plenty of new admirers this season after being deployed in midfield by interim Blues boss Rafael Benítez.

But the 26-year-old concedes that he is looking forward a having a rest this summer and is thankful that the Blues have been able to rotate their squad this season.

“It has been a long season for Chelsea and for me and I am so tired now, but I love to play football,” Luiz told Chelsea’s website.

“Sometimes I am tired but not just Chelsea, the Brazil national team as well have a great team so you can change some players to play some games.”

He added: “I enjoy every day, not just during the season. God gave me a fantastic life with my health first, with my family which is amazing and with a great job.

“I enjoy every day and of course I enjoy this season because Chelsea need to win trophies every year and I won one more trophy and qualified for the Champions League.”
