Hamann & more: Twitter reacts as Suárez hints at Liverpool exit
Dietmar Hamann and Gary Lineker both tweet their thoughts after Liverpool striker Luis Suárez confirms he wants to leave
Luis Suárez has expressed his desire to leave Liverpool in the summer amid reported interest from Real Madrid.
The 26-year-old’s future has been a source of constant speculation in recent weeks, with Liverpool insisting the Uruguay international is “not for sale” following Suárez’s admission at a news conference.
Here is the best of the Twitter reaction from the professionals in chronological order to the unfolding Suárez transfer saga.
As a former Liverpool midfielder, Dietmar Hamann (@DietmarHamann) is understandably unimpressed: “Suárez gave great service but missed 20 games, dragged the image of the club through the mud and now blames media for his exit #topguy.”
Ex-Chelsea star Jody Morris (@morriskid) is siding with the Uruguayan: “Don’t think you can blame Suárez wanting to leave (surely wants Champions League) but if he blaming press or English refs than that sums him up!”
England legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) feels sorry for the Reds despite his Everton past: “Luis Suárez wants to leave Liverpool. Nice reward for a club that rightly or wrongly stuck steadfastly behind him. He’ll conveniently blame the media, I imagine. Nothing like having an excuse. Great player too. Feel for LFC and their fans.”
Hamann (@DietmarHamann) responds to Lineker: “@garylineker Easier to blame somebody else than having a look at yourself #Suárez”
Former Liverpool captain Phil Thompson (@Phil_Thompson4) wants the Reds to act quickly: “Strong words from Luis Suárez, club need to get maximum price and move on quickly, don’t let this drag on.”
Celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) wants the Gunners to launch an audacious bid: “Arsenal should offer £40m for Suárez right now. We won’t, obviously, because then there would be a danger of winning a trophy.”
Former Norwich City striker Darren Huckerby (@hucks6dh6) reckons Suárez is too big for Liverpool: “I’ll probably get dogs abuse for this but his antics aside, at this present time Suárez is too good for Liverpool!”
Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) risks incurring the wrath of Reds fans: “All you Liverpool fans keep ya club out of my timeline when I’m talking England ! #AntagonisingTweet!”
Finally, ex-Celtic striker John Hartson (@JohnHartson10) is shocked by Suárez’s lack of loyalty: “Huge blow to Liverpool if it is true that Suárez has told boss he wants to leave.. how many times did Liverpool back him?? #noloyaltyinthegame Sounds to me like saying it is the press’s fault is a nice easy way out.. Smokescreen.. Who doesn’t get a bad time off the press? Deal with it. Try living in Glasgow for five years and playing for one of the old firm.. Then you’ll see what real stick is!”
