Emmanuel Adebayor is hoping Wigan can to top-four chasing Tottenham a favour when they take on Arsenal at The Emirates on Tuesday.
The Latics, who lifted their first major trophy on Saturday after their dramatic FA Cup final victory over Manchester City, travel to north London knowing that anything but a win will see them relegated from the Premier League.
Spurs moved above Arsenal and into fourth place in the table thanks to Sunday’s 2-1 win at Stoke.
And Adebayor, who netted the winner for Andre Villas-Boas’s men at the Britannia Stadium, is hoping Wigan can get a result against his former club.
“We’ll be cheering for Wigan, we hope they can beat Arsenal,” Adebayor said.
“I was surprised by the way they played in the FA Cup final, although don’t get me wrong, we know they have a good team with players with a lot of good players.
“They put enthusiasm and spirit into the game, they fought for every single ball and they deserved to beat City. Now they have two big games to save their season.
“If they find a way to save their season, it will be tremendous and now they have to go to Arsenal and do their job there.
“It will be tough for them, but I think now with the confidence, with the belief that they have just won the FA Cup, it’s a good time for them to play Arsenal.”
