Frank Lampard has revealed his delight at signing a new one-year contract extension to keep him at Chelsea until next summer.
The 34-year-old midfielder put pen to paper on a fresh deal just hours after Chelsea’s Europa League final triumph over Benfica and following months of speculation about his future.
“I’m absolutely delighted,” said Lampard. “Everybody knows I always maintained the dream was to stay at Chelsea.
“We’ve been talking for ages and even though it went on for quite a period it was always amicable.”
Lampard became Chelsea’s all-time record goal-scorer last weekend when he scored twice against Aston Villa to notch up his 202nd and 203rd strikes for the club.
The England international, who has netted 17 goals this season, has made over 600 appearances for the Blues since joining the Stamford Bridge outfit from West Ham United in 2001.
“I want to thank [Chelsea owner] Roman Abramovich for everything he’s done in making the dream a reality,” he continued.
“I love this club, the staff, the players and especially the supporters, who have treated me fantastically since the day I arrived.
“The thought of helping the club to more success in the forthcoming years is all I ever wanted. I couldn’t be happier.”
Lampard has won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, the Champions League, Europa League and two League Cups with the Blues.
The midfielder is only the third man to have played 600 games for the club and has made 560 starts and 47 substitute appearances for the west Londoners.
Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay said: “Frank has been an important player for Chelsea for a long time and has played a significant part in the club’s success.
“We have been talking to him since the end of last year and our discussions have been entirely positive throughout.
“We are delighted we are now announcing an extension to his contract which will keep him at the club until 2014.”
